Brand Category: Hotels & Accommodation

Hotel pricing works similarly to airline pricing in that it shifts based on demand for specific dates and locations rather than following one fixed rate. A percentage off promotion from a hotel chain typically applies broadly across their properties, but the actual dollar savings will vary a great deal depending on which property and which dates you choose.

Loyalty programs matter a lot in this subcategory too. Many hotel chains reserve their best rates and added perks, like free breakfast or room upgrades, for loyalty members, so it is often worth joining a free loyalty program even if you only plan to stay with a chain once, simply to access member only pricing.

Cancellation policies vary significantly between discounted and standard rates. A heavily discounted rate is sometimes non-refundable, while a standard rate at a higher price might allow free cancellation, which matters if your travel plans are not fully locked in yet.

Short term rental platforms, where listed in this subcategory, often have service fees added at checkout that are not reflected in the nightly rate shown upfront, so the total cost is worth checking before comparing a rental price directly against a traditional hotel rate.
